Fall by the Mill in North Berwick, Maine

Today's painting is a 5 x 8" vertical of the river and fall colors along the mill in North Berwick. It was painted on location on a beautiful fall afternoon. The backlighting of the warm sky was a nice contrast to the house and wall. It worked nicely in the vertical format too.
Off to the White Mountains for four days of painting! No posting till I return. There will be plenty of paintings when I get back!

The Apparition
Well this one was inspired by the classic ghost tale and movie "The Innocents" the black and white 1961 film with Deborah Kerr.
It being a full moon and Halloween coming I decided this location I had visited and painted at recently in Sherborn, MA would be an ideal spot for a ghostly vision. That scene in the movie when the woman's spirit appears across the pond, I just love that film...

House of Seven Gables (Salem, MA)

Well here is another Salem scene. The famous House of Seven Gables . I finally got to tour it a few weeks back. I am also reading the novel by Hawthorne so I felt the need to paint it with a moody twilight atmosphere. I love the work of the Victorian painter Atkinson Grimshaw, and I was trying to get that feeling in this one.
