River Tree Arts class

This is some of my class at work yesterday in Kennebunkport, ME painting a street scene on a nice sunny morning.
More of the same this weekend with my three day workshop that starts here in North Berwick at 9:30am. I am teaching six sessions through Sunday afternoon. There are still a few slots open so call or email for info. We will be painting at Perkins Cove in Ogunquit in the afternoon session Saturday. Nice to have spring weather at last!

March Afternoon Light

Here is the painting after I stopped working at 4:20pm this afternoon. I had fun with that foreground color. It is very impressionistic in treatment. There is such subtle color right now.
It was sunny and bright but a little bite in the wind still. Spring is coming though and I had longer to work on this one then i would have last month at this time.
The painting is 16 x 20" in oils and the whole thing was completed on location .

This is a shot of a painting I had done on location with my class on Sunday in North Berwick. A really nice farm and landscape that I have enjoyed painting over the years.
This is how it looked when I returned to the location and before I began to work on it this afternoon.

The Harbor Room in Gloucester,MA

This painting was sold this weekend. It is the Harbor Room in East Gloucester, MA.
It is an acrylic on panel 6 x 8". It was also featured on "Good Morning Gloucester " this morning. Thanks Paul! Always happy to paint Gloucester my old hometown. This was a view my friends and I stumbled on while looking for a location one cold day in early February.
I had added that image earlier in a blog. That painting did not work out and was destroyed. This one is much better and I may make a larger version of it.

I wanted to try a Vermeer like pose with the model near a window. The window was a large south facing on a gray overcast day. It was a steady cool light.

This is in the early stages of a painting of Christina in a kimono. The painting is 24 x 20" in oils on canvas.

A portrait I have been working on for about three weeks now. It is 18 x 18" in oils.

A Yellow Farmhouse

This is my painting after I had it blow off my easel and land face down in the weeds and dirt. After a little scraping with my palette knife (which also helped the painting...) it was fine.
It is a 12 x 16" oil on canvas panel.

Block in on Sunday Morning

Her is my block in for a painting done on Sunday morning as part of my three day workshop this weekend. We had sunny but windy conditions for most of the time but we all had fun.
This painting was done at the corner of Card Mill Road and Lebanon Road in North Berwick.

Up in the Back Fields

Here is the painting as it stands from the session. I will work it up a bit more in the studio.
I like the afternoon warm glow against the shadows and cooler tones in the foreground. It has a subtle color range.
